Description

Sunflower oil is a plant-based oil extracted from sunflower seeds. This oil is commonly used in cooking. You can use it to make a good dressing, but it also serves as a good base for mayonnaise. This oil contains many unsaturated fatty acids and is very heat-resistant. Sunflower oil can be used up to a temperature of about 175°C. In High-Oleic sunflowers (HO-Sunflowers), the percentage of oleic acid has been increased to 70–92% and the percentage of polyunsaturated fatty acids reduced to about 10% through conventional breeding. High-Oleic sunflower oil thus has a similar composition to olive oil. This is intended to ensure higher heat stability.
